A Minor Key

Toward the end I went up to New Haven from New York to spend a week with my wife at the university. She lived at the medical students' residence. I got there, to a huge building with a massive lobby, at the far end of which was a grand piano and potted trees and so on. I wasn't getting along well with my girl at the time, so I stood in the doorway and listened to the pianist play Chopin for half an hour before I got up the nerve to go compliment him on such fine work. As I got closer, I saw he was a girl, and, in fact, my girl.
