The story below from the Edmonton Sun by Canadian Press gives us some outline of the murder of Aqsa Parvez, a 16 year old Toronto girl murdered allegedly by her father. The story below is only partially true, and therefore the missing details the original story leaves out are included, to a bare extent, to give the reader an indication of what more lies behind this murder. Please see the link to the original story at bottom.
"Death of 16-Year-Old Girl 'Not About Religion'; Teen slain after refusing to wear hijab, father charged." Canadian Press, Edmonton Sun, Dec. 13, 2007.
The Sun: Toronto. Islamic leaders rose to the defence of their religion Thursday as the Muslim community continued to grieve the death of a 16-year-old girl — and deny suggestions that her slaying should in any way be interpreted as a reflection on their faith.
Islam condemns violence and teaches adherents not to force their beliefs upon others, Sheik Alaa El-Sayyed, imam at Mississauga's Islamic Society of North America, told a news conference in the suburban city west of Toronto that was once home to Aqsa Parvez.
Right: Sheik Alaa El-Sayyed, imam at Mississauga's Islamic Society of North America
Note: What is the Islamic Society of North America ? According to Dr. J. Michael Waller, the Annenberg Professor of International Communications at the Institute of World Politics (who also serves as a Vice President of the Center for Security Policy): "The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) refers Muslim clerics to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons." The Islamic Society of North America is an influential front for the promotion of the Wahhabi political, ideological and theological infrastructure in the United States and Canada. Established by the Saudi-sponsored Muslim Students Association (which has hundreds of chapters on U.S. college campuses), ISNA seeks to marginalize leaders of the Muslim faith who do not support its ideological goals. Through sponsorship of propaganda, doctrinal material and mosques, ISNA is pursuing the Islamofascists' strategic objective of dominating Islam in North America.
What Does Islam Say About "Forcing People in Religion?"
A basic and fundamental truth established by the sacred texts of Islam (Quran and Hadeeth) is that: - "No one can be compelled to accept Islam!"
It is the duty of the Muslims to establish proof of validity of Islam to the people in order for the truth to be distinct from falsehood. Once that is done, whoever wishes to accept Islam may do so and whoever wishes to continue upon their belief may do so. No one is to be threatened or harmed in any way should they chose not to accept Islam.
It's in the details that the whole thing goes pear-shaped. The Bible has some very exciting bits in it to rouse the imagination and thrill the soul with violence and rampage, but unfortunately it's metaphor and dusty history of long-dead tribes in North Africa. It has little to do with anything in the past 2,500 years other than providing stories of origins and history. The Koran, on the other hand, is alive and vibrant, the immutable and unchanging word or Allah, valid for all time and not to be changed by so much as a letter. Those Christians or Jews who try to justify their deed of violence against others haven't got anything theologically valid to stand on. Christians do not support violence committed by random individuals or sects of lunatics. Islam, though, is all for violence. It's required.
Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. - Sura 2:98
On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. - Sura 2:161
Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191
Fight against them until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme. (different translation: ) Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is God's entirely. - Sura 2:193 and 8:39
Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it. - 2:216
(different translation: ) Prescribed for you is fighting, though it is hateful to you.
If you should die or be killed in the cause of Allah, His mercy and forgiveness would surely be better than all they riches they amass. If you should die or be killed, before Him you shall all be gathered. - 3:157-8
You must not think that those who were slain in the cause of Allah are dead. They are alive, and well-provided for by their Lord. - Surah 3:169-71
Let those fight in the cause of God who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fights in the cause of God, whether he is slain or victorious, soon we shall give him a great reward. - Surah 4:74
Those who believe fight in the cause of God, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of evil. - 4:76
But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever you find them. - 4:89
Therefore, we stirred among them enmity and hatred, which shall endure till the Day of Resurrection, when Allah will declare to them all that they have done. - 5:14
O believers, take not Jews and Christians as friends; they are friends of each other. Those of you who make them his friends is one of them. God does not guide an unjust people. - 5:54Much more at: http://www.wvinter.net/~haught
Christians might be individually violent but it has nothing to do with Christianity; the same cannot be said of Islam.
But what of "no compulsion in religion"? Well, that's where it almost seems true but isn't.
When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. - 9:5
Believers! Know that idolators are unclean. - 9:28Fight those who believe neither in God nor the Last Day, nor what has been forbidden by God and his messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, even if they are People of the Book, until they pay the tribute and have been humbled. - 9:29
Muslims are required to fight and carry on jihad till the whole world submits to the religion of Mohammed, i.e. Islam. Most have the alternative of either converting to Islam at the point of the sword or dying; some, such as Jews, (though no longer) Christians, Zoroastrians had the option of dying at the hands of victorious Muslims, of converting to Islam, or of becoming dhimmis. Dhimmis? That would be the thrust of this blog. No Dhimmitude. Suffice it to say dhimmitude is worse than death. Robert Spencer writes:
Dhimmitude is the status that Islamic law, the Sharia, mandates for non-Muslims, primarily Jews and Christians. Dhimmis, "protected people," are free to practice their religion in a Sharia regime, but are made subject to a number of humiliating regulations designed to enforce the Qur'an's command that they "feel themselves subdued" (Sura 9:29). This denial of equality of rights and dignity remains part of the Sharia, and, as such, is part of the law that global jihadists are laboring to impose everywhere, ultimately on the entire human race.

So, no, there is no compulsion in religion if you're a Jew, a Christian, or a Zoroastrian. That you would rather be dead is the only flaw in the rosy picture painted by Muslims.
The Sun: The high school student, who died late Monday in hospital, was embroiled in a long-standing dispute with her family over her apparent reluctance to wear the hijab, the traditional Muslim head scarf, her school friends say.
Parvez's father Muhammad, a taxi driver in Mississauga, is in custody and charged with murder. He has not yet entered a plea.
Police have also charged his 26-year-old son, Waqas, with obstructing police in connection with his sister's death. He was scheduled to appear in court Friday for a bail hearing.
"The bottom line is, it's a domestic violence issue," El-Sayyed said.
*****Note: "Honour" killings of women can be defined as acts of murder in which "a woman is killed for her actual or perceived immoral behavior." (Yasmeen Hassan, "The Fate of Pakistani Women," International Herald Tribune, May 25, 1999.) Such "immoral behavior" may take the form of marital infidelity, refusing to submit to an arranged marriage, demanding a divorce, flirting with or receiving phone calls from men, failing to serve a meal on time, or -- grotesquely -- "allowing herself" to be raped. In the Turkish province of Sanliurfa, one young woman's "throat was slit in the town square because a love ballad was dedicated to her over the radio." (Pelin Turgut, "'Honour' Killings Still Plague Turkish Province," The Toronto Star, May 14, 1998.)....
Pakistan, where "honour" killings are known as karo-kari, is probably the country where such atrocities are most pervasive. Estimating the scale of the phenomenon there, as elsewhere, is made more difficult not only by the problems of data collection in predominantly rural countries, but by the extent to which community members and political authorities collaborate in covering up the atrocities. According to Yasmeen Hassan, author of The Haven Becomes Hell: A Study of Domestic Violence in Pakistan, "The concepts of women as property and honor are so deeply entrenched in the social, political and economic fabric of Pakistan that the government, for the most part, ignores the daily occurrences of women being killed and maimed by their families." (Hassan, "The Fate of Pakistani Women.") Frequently, women murdered in "honour" killings are recorded as having committed suicide or died in accidents....

So, is it Islam or is it Muslim countries and Muslims in non-Muslim countries? Let's ask Muslim authorites:
ZINA: [Please see final entry.]
The Sun: "We, as Muslims, are Canadians and we should be dealt with just like everyone else. We have rights, duties... pros and cons just like all other human beings."
Note: Isn't there a concept from the Koran of Muslim supremacy?
|Pickthal||Ye are the best community that hath been raised up for mankind. Ye enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency; and ye believe in Allah. And if the People of the Scripture had believed it had been better for them. Some of them are believers; but most of them are evil-livers.|
|Arberry||You are the best nation ever brought forth to men, bidding to honour, and forbidding dishonour, and believing in God. Had the People of the Book believed, it were better for them; some of them are believers, but the most of them are ungodly.|
|Shakir||You are the best of the nations raised up for (the benefit of) men; you enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong and believe in Allah; and if the followers of the Book had believed it would have been better for them; of them (some) are believers and most of them are transgressors.|
|Sarwar||You are the best nation that ever existed among humanity. You command people to good and prohibit them from evil, and you believe in God. Had the People of the Book accepted the faith (Islam), it would certainly have been better for them. Some of them have faith, but most of them are evil doers.|
The Sun: Autopsy results released Wednesday found Parvez died of "neck compression."
The tragedy has underscored a controversial and heated public debate about women's rights within Canada's Islamic communities, and inflamed existing tensions already strained by what Muslim leaders say is ignorance and misunderstanding in Canadian society.
Note: Perhaps it's Muslim women who are causing the problem, criticizing Islam.
Ali is a stinging and unrepentant in her criticism of what ails the Islamic world. Yet, she does not blame individual Muslims for this, but Islam itself....
She is a celebrity of sorts among Islamophobes, and I am not sure why....
Why does she garner such interest wherever she goes? Perhaps because these days the world seems to love outspoken critics of Islam, whether or not they have the facts to back up what they're saying....
Ali is an expert on putting a big negative stamp on Islam and finding ways to blame the religion for all sorts of problems that ail the Muslim (and non-Muslim world). Consider some of her incendiary statements:
- On NPR's "Talk of the Nation," Ali tried to link the ills of the Muslim world--which have a multitude of causes—with just Islam itself. Of female genital mutilation, Ali admitted that it started "1,800 years before Christ, so it was way before Islam came about." Then comes the "but": "If you look at the countries that practice it today," Ali said, "most of them are Islamic. And one of the things that makes [female genital mutilation] very useful for Muslims is their attitude towards virginity and premarital sex. The Qur'an is very clear and says those who engage in premarital sex should be flogged 100 times, both men and women. But it is, of course, much easier to prove that a woman has had premarital sex. Islam, like some of the other monotheistic faiths, tries to control the sexuality of the woman first."
- When talking about slavery, she highlighted how the fight to abolish the slavery practiced by the West came from within the West itself. In contrast, however, "Today, in the world we live in, slavery is practiced only in Arab/Islamic world ... Muslims are not responding to that," she said to Neal Conan of NPR....

The Sun: Women ultimately have the choice of whether or not they want to wear a hijab, but Islam teaches that such women occupy a more advanced position within the religion, El-Sayyed said.
Note: There have been objections to that kind of remark, some based on the Koranic injunction to go into your wives as if they were a file for you to plow whenever you care to, a concept that seems very much like marital rape. But what does a woman say? Perhaps men have it all wrong:
Maryam Namazie, "Islam, political Islam and women in the Middle East"
Speech at a March 8 conference entitled 'Islam, Secularism and Women in the Middle East'
March 9, 2002 London, UK
The situation of women living in Islam-stricken societies and under Islamic laws is the outrage of the 21st century. Burqa-clad and veiled women and girls, beheadings, stoning to death, floggings, child sexual abuse in the name of marriage and sexual apartheid are only the most brutal and visible aspects of women's rightlessness and third class citizen status in the Middle East.
Apologists for Islam state that the situation of women in Iran and in Islam-stricken countries is human folly; they say that Islamic rules and laws practised in the Middle East are not following the true precepts of Islam. They state that we must separate Islam from the practice of Islamic governments and movements.
In fact, however, the brutality and violence meted out against women and girls are nothing other than Islam itself.
According to the Koran, for example, the fornicator must be flogged a hundred stripes (The Light: 24.2). Those who are guilty of an 'indecency' must be 'confined until death takes them away or Allah opens some way for them.' (The Women, 4.15). 'Men are the maintainers of women' and 'good' women are obedient. Those that men fear 'desertion', can be admonished, confined and beaten' (The Women, 4.34). Wives are a 'tilth' for men, which they can go into their 'tilth' when they like (The Cow, 2.223). Veiling is promoted in the Koran: 'O Prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they let down upon them their over-garments' (The Clans, 33.59).
Apologists for Islam say that these verses have been misinterpreted. They go so far as to claim that there is gender equity in Islam and Islam respects the rights of women.Regarding the verse in the Koran sanctioning violence against women, they say that Islam only permits violence after admonishment and confinement and as a last resort. They say, since men would beat their wives mercilessly at that time, this is a restriction on men to beat women more mercifully....

The Sun: "When I look at a woman who is covered, I look at her as a soul, a person, a mentality — not a physical or sexual object," he said.****
Note: What is an "uncovered" woman?
"If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street, on the pavement, in a garden, in a park, or in the backyard, without a cover and the cats eat it, then whose fault will it be, the cat?s, or the uncovered meat?s? The uncovered meat is the disaster. If the meat was covered the cats wouldn?t roam around it. If the meat is inside the fridge, they won?t get it."

The Sun: Muslim women who wear veils might not "look pretty," but their modest dress protects them, he added.
"Raped by a Muslim," By Yusuf
[....] An alarming, disturbing trend has been discovered in Europe and Australia. And the trend is shocking to say at the least. Muslim men have been found caught in rape and gang-rape of western women. This trend of rape is increasing and is found highest in areas with the highest immigrant population.
Why Muslim men have to resort to such shameful acts of taking a woman's honor? Is it something to do with the way Islam is being taught by our Mullahs or is it something much deeper.
I was shocked to find how rape has increased in Scandinavian Nations that is specifically in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. These rape incidents increase in summer when conventionally western women dress skimpily.
In 2001, it has been reported that two out of three charged in rape has been an immigrant in Oslo – Norway's Capital. And this is just not an isolated nation bearing the brunt of our men who cannot keep their libido in place.
Lebanese Muslim Gangs in Australia routinely go on abusing white women and girls and many of them have become victims of gang rapes by Lebanese men. This led to race riots in Sydney among the Lebanese gangs and Neo-Nazi gangs with a common Australian caught in between
A Pakistani man in Australia had the audacity to say in court that his 14 year old rape victims had no right to say that they were raped because they did not wear hijab.
On top of it a statement coming from Sheikh Taj Din al-Hilali that women dressed in "satanic clothing" are responsible for their rapes is an open invitation for those Lebanese Muslim Gangs to rape more.
The Sun: Mohammad Iqbal Alnadvi, a marriage counsellor and religious expert at the Al-Fatah Islamic Centre in Oakville, said he believes it's important for parents in Muslim families to give their daughters a choice when it comes to decisions of dress.
"My daughter, she's going into Grade 11, and she's taking the hijab," Alnadvi said.
"I never asked her to take the hijab, but I developed a mentality in her to choose — it is her choice."
Right: Sheik Alaa El-Sayyed, imam at Mississauga's Islamic Society of North America
****Note: "By compelling his daughter to wed an illiterate villager for whom the very idea of female independence is anathema, who believes it's a husband's God-given right and duty to beat such ideas out of her for (or, for that matter, for no reason whatsoever), and who will restrict her movements outside the home as fully as possible, a father can fight off the influence of the West and ensure his daughter, though living in Europe, will have a life very much like that of a peasant woman in a Pakistani village." Bruce Bauer, While Europe Slept. p. 22. 2006
The Sun: Meanwhile, students and friends at Applewood Heights Secondary School were expressing
outrage at the intense media attention generated by the death of their friend.
Note: The West makes a natural mistake in their understanding of Islamic tradition, assuming that religion means the same for Muslims as it has meant for most other religious adherents ever since the industrial revolution, and for some societies, even before that; that is: a section of life reserved for certain matters, and separate from other sections of life. This is not the Islamic world view. It never has been in the past, and modern attempts of making it so are seen as an aberration.
Islam: A Total Way of Life
Islam is a "total way of life." It has provided guidance in every sphere of life, from individual cleanliness, rules of trade, to the structure and politics of the society. Islam can never be separated from social, political, or economic life, since religion provides moral guidance for every action that a person takes. The primary act of faith is to strive to implement God's will in both private and public life. Muslims see that they, themselves, as well as the world around them, must be in total submission to God and his Will. Moreover, they know that this concept of His rule must be established on earth in order to create a just society. Like Jews and Christians before them, Muslims have been called into a covenant relationship with God, making them a community of believers who must serve as an example to other nations by creating a moral social order. God tells the Muslim global nation....

Why was Aqsa Parvez murdered?
ZINA: This is the Muslim term for sex-crimes relating to women. From D.W. Walker, Annotated Glossary of Islamic Extremism. (Work in progress.)
Zina : Islamically illicit sex, generally considered to be committed by or against females, i.e. adultery, rape [passive], incest, premarital sex, or "mingling" [ q.v.]. C.f. Rape; Honor killings.
"All Sunni schools of jurisprudence agree that zina is to be punished with stoning if the offender is muhsan [q.v.], i.e. adult, free, and Muslim…." Bearman, et al., Encyclopedia of Islam: vol. 11, p.509.
Zina: extramarital sex, according to Islamic law.
"Fornication and adultery, i.e. sexual intercourse between partners who are not married to each other. One of the Kabair (major sins) in Islam. Allah Ta'ala [ q.v.] has prescribed flogging (100 lashes) and year's exile for either a man or a woman who commits Zinah and is not married. Although it is not expressly stated in the Qur'an, the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, made it clear that a married man or woman who commits Zinah is to be stoned to death. Similarly, homosexuals and lesbians in a Muslim community are put to death. These measures protect the cohesion of the family, and accordingly of the community as whole. See Holy Qur'an An-Nur (24):2-10." www.answeringislam.com/
"If such criminals are unmarried or are the unsophisticated youth, then their punishment is a hundred stripes and exile and if they are widowers or are married, then their punishment is a hundred stripes and death by stoning." Sahih Muslim [ q.v.] 1690
"The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication, flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment." Koran 24:2.
"Imran b. Hussein reported that a woman from Juhaina came to Mohammed and said she had become pregnant because of adultery. She said: 'I am pregnant as a result of Zina.' Mohammed said: 'Go back, and come to me after the birth of the child.' After giving birth, the woman came back to Mohammed, saying: 'Please purify me now.' Next, Muhammad said, 'Go and suckle your child, and come after the period of suckling is over.' She came after the period of weaning and brought a piece of bread with her. She fed the child the piece of bread and said, 'O, Allah's Apostle, the child has been weaned.' At that Muhammad pronounced judgment about her and she was stoned to death." "Meanwhile, as a result of the misclassification of rape, there are women all over the Muslem world who are actually rape victims. Some estimate that as many as 75 per cent of women in Pakistani prisons are there because they were raped." Paraphrased: Robert Spencer, Islam Unveiled. Encounter Books: 2003: P. 91; note # 58, p. 190.
"A jirga (meeting of tribal elders) publicly executed four people, including a woman, on charges of adultery in Khyber Agency, some 25 kilometers west of Peshawar in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP).
Gul said the culprits admitted in front of 600 tribesmen, including elders of the jirga of Sipah, that they were committing adultery. He said the jirga handed down the death penalty to the culprits. They were shot dead the next morning in front of the tribal people in the Spera Dam area of Khyber Agency.
Last year, three people, including a woman, were killed after they were allegedly caught red-handed and arrested in a house in the agency. The jirga decided the case in a couple of days and agreed on the death penalty. Later, the three culprits were first stoned then shot dead as per tribal customs." "Maududi [q.v.] describes the following conditions traditionally meted out as punishment for zina:
The accused, before the accusation, must be known as a practicing Muslim.
The accused must possess common sense. The accused must not have been in an intoxicated state of mind while the act was committed.
The accused must be an adult having well surpassed the age of puberty.
The accused must have committed adultery of his/her own free will.
There must be four male witnesses (or pieces of evidence) to support the accusation (of sexual penetration).
Additional fulfillment of the following requirements is necessary for an execution:
The accused must be free and not a slave.
The accused must be married (according to Islamic Law), and must enjoy normal sexual relations with his/her spouse (and therefore have a legitimate means of satisfying his/her sexual desires) prior to committing adultery.
The accused (woman) must not be pregnant or be responsible for breast feeding a child." Wikipedia, "Zina."
"It is forbidden to look upon a woman other than ones wife, or an animal, or a statue, in a sensual or lubricious manner." Ruholla Khomeini: p. 125.
"If any of your women commit fornication, call in four witnesses from among yourselves against them; if they testify to they guilt, confine them to their houses till death overtakes them or till Allah finds another way for them. If two men among you commit an indecency, punish them both. If they repent and mend their ways, let them be. Allah is forgiving and merciful." Koran, 4: 13.
"Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him, and among what Allah revealed, was the Verse of the Rajam (the stoning of married person (male & female) who commits illegal sexual intercourse, and we did recite this Verse and understood and memorized it. Allah's Apostle did carry out the punishment of stoning and so did we after him.
I am afraid that after a long time has passed, somebody will say, 'By Allah, we do not find the Verse of the Rajam in Allah's Book,' and thus they will go astray by leaving an obligation which Allah has revealed. And the punishment of the Rajam is to be inflicted to any married person (male & female), who commits illegal sexual intercourse, if the required evidence is available or there is conception or confession." He turned such-and-such person out, and 'Umar also turned out such-and-such person." Sahih Bukhari,: Volume 8, Book 82, Number 820: Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: www.usc.edu/.
"A bedouin came to the Prophet while he (the Prophet) was sitting, and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Give your verdict according to Allah's Laws (in our case)." Then his opponent got up and said, "He has told the truth, O Allah's Apostle! Decide his case according to Allah's Laws. My son was a laborer working for this person, and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife, and the people told me that my son should be stoned to death, but I offered one-hundred sheep and a slave girl as a ransom for him. Then I asked the religious learned people, and they told me that my son should be flogged with one-hundred stripes and be exiled for one year." The Prophet said, "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, I will judge you according to Allah's Laws. The sheep and the slave girl will be returned to you and your son will be flogged one-hundred stripes and be exiled for one year. And you, O Unais! Go to the wife of this man (and if she confesses), stone her to death." So Unais went in the morning and stoned her to death (after she had confessed)." It is not zina: "If a man sodomizes the son, brother, or father of his wife after their marriage; the marriage remains valid." Ruhollah Khomeini: p. 100.
"Again, the penalties of a non-Muslim guilty of fornication with a Muslim woman are augmented because, in addition to the crime against morality, social duty, and religion he has committed sacrilege in that he has disgraced a Muslim and thereby cast scorn upon the Muslims in general, and so must be executed." The concepts and some of the quotations above are but a small glimpse into the world of Shari'a, the basis of Islam for all sects and sections. Aqsa Parvez was murdered according to Islamic law, i.e. in accord with Shari'a. At this time, most in the West do not subscribe to Shari'a as the legal code for our nations. This is rapidly changing and Shari'a is becoming a distinct possibility in the West as Muslim populations continue to expand and non-Muslim populations in the West continue to shrink. With the coming of Shari'a in the West we will see an increase in such murders as took the life of Aqsa Parvez. In Islam, it is the law.
